Over the past few months, Chris Ainsworth and the technical team at Footprint Digital has been working behind the scenes on an exciting new project designed to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing modern brands.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in the way people discover, evaluate and engage with brand and content, understanding how your brand is represented within AI-driven platforms is quickly becoming critical.
The rise of tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, combined with Google’s integration of AI features like AI Overviews and AI Mode, has fundamentally changed how information is surfaced.
While they are still very important, search is no longer just about blue links and ranking positions.
Instead, it is about answers, summaries and recommendations generated by systems that most brands currently have very little visibility into.
One of the most common questions we are now asked is simple but significant: ‘how is our brand being represented by AI?’
The Challenge: No Visibility Into AI Representation
At present, most AI systems do not provide meaningful data for brands to analyse.
While Google does offer a small amount of insight via Search Console, this information is difficult to isolate and is bundled in with existing data.
It does not clearly show when or where a brand is featured in AI-driven responses.
Platforms such as ChatGPT and others currently provide no information at all about the prompts users are entering, how often your brand appears in responses, the context in which it is mentioned, or the sources being used to form those answers.
This creates a major blind spot for marketing teams and makes it difficult to understand how modern search behaviour is influencing brand perception and competitive positioning.
As this concern has grown across the industry and among our own client base, it became clear that a solution was needed.
The Solution: Response RAIdar
Response RAIdar is Footprint Digital’s proprietary, in-house platform built to track and analyse brand visibility within generative AI systems at scale.
Where many businesses are manually typing queries into AI tools and reviewing individual responses in an attempt to gauge if, when, or how their brand is portrayed, Response RAIdar automates and expands this process dramatically.
The system runs large volumes of prompts across multiple AI platforms, then collects and stores the responses, and analyses the results over time.
It identifies whether a specific brand is mentioned, how it is positioned, which competitors are included or excluded, and what sources are being cited to support the answer.
Response RAIdar can also extract and analyse recognised entities such as brand names, locations, services and organisations that appear within responses. This provides deeper insight into the wider context in which a brand is being discussed and compared online.
Most importantly, all of this data is tracked over time.
This means we can understand patterns, trends and shifts in brand visibility, and ultimately build a clearer picture of how a brand is evolving within AI-generated results.
Seeing the Insight in Action
Even in its first phase, Response RAIdar is already delivering meaningful insights.
The custom built dashboard allows us to visualise brand mentions over time and compare performance against known or emerging competitors in the same space.
We’ve tested brand-specific prompts such as “Who are Footprint Digital?”, and can clearly see when and where the brand is referenced, how it is described and which websites or citations have influenced that response.
For more general prompts such as “Best SEO agency” or “Top digital marketing agency for law firms”, we can identify whether a brand appears at all, the position it is given in the response, and the context in which it is presented.
These are the first true steps towards being able to optimise content, digital PR and SEO strategies specifically for generative and AI-driven search.
What’s Next for Response RAIdar?
This is very much Phase One.
A number of enhancements are already planned in the coming weeks with our development team, including deeper competitor insights, domain and citation analysis, extended reporting options and more advanced multi-platform comparisons.
As AI continues to reshape how people find and evaluate brands, tools like Response RAIdar will play a critical role in helping businesses stay visible, relevant and competitive.
We are incredibly excited about the current output and future potential of this platform and the opportunities it will unlock for our clients.
