Our Organisational Dynamics: A Research Study

Published on 18th June 2018

The Footprint team have been pestering our directors for an office pet for some time now. We started small with the suggestion of a fish – which quickly escalated to a Shetland pony, with cats, rabbits, and an office dog in between. Instead, they turned us all into guinea pigs.

We’re not sure who the pineapple is…

For the first few months of this year, we were joined by University of Essex student, Annalisa, who observed one internal meeting per week to study our organisational dynamics and internal culture. This is what she discovered…

Annalisa’s Research Study

‘From January to March 2018, I worked with Footprint Digital on a university research project about organisational culture and workplace dynamics.

In my master’s module ‘Organisational Dynamics’ we investigated the various aspects of group and organisational dynamics from a psychosocial perspective.

More precisely, we learned about how the individual takes up a role and how those roles are shaped by dynamic processes in groups and organisations.

To get a better understanding of those theoretical concepts, we were asked to observe a group in a professional context.

Tom B and his team welcomed me at Footprint to conduct the research project. Over a period of two months, I visited the company for one hour per week to learn about Footprint’s organisational culture and workplace dynamics.

What I observed was a modern working environment with directors and managers who empower and encourage their staff. The atmosphere was consistently positive, mindful and supportive.

Both the office design and technology is state of the art, as is Footprint’s modern organisational culture. The impression I gained was that Footprint was just as much dedicated to its clients’ success as about the well-being of their employees.

A great place to work for everyone who is interested in digital marketing.’

To make sure that we were acting as naturally as possible, we weren’t told exactly what Annalisa was researching, until she visited us in May to present her findings.

It was a really nice surprise to hear what she had to say about our organisation – we’re quite proud of how our team works, but it’s always good to hear it from somebody else!

She also treated us to doughnuts, so Annalisa- you’re welcome in the office anytime!

Best of luck with the rest of your studies!
